Like his fellow agents in the Baker McNicholas Group, Peter Coutant considers himself a Lake Forest native. He grew up in the community from a young age and has worked there for his entire professional career.
Peter has a unique perspective of Lake Forest, as he spent almost 15 years serving as the city planner. Along with negotiating complex development proposals, Peter helped hundreds of homeowners and building professionals successfully navigate the review processes for local buildings, zoning, architectural design, and historic preservation. Peter's unique ability to advise his clients on navigating these processes has made him a valuable part of the team.
Having collaborated closely with the local real estate community while working in city planning, Peter smoothly transitioned into his role as a broker in 2011. It was a bit like switching to the other side of the table, and many of the skills he picked up during his earlier career have served him well as an agent. Peter's interpersonal skills, problem-solving techniques, and negotiation tactics translated excellently to real estate.
Coupled with what he learned in his previous career, Peter also has extensive residential renovation and home rehabilitation experience. He previously renovated his own historic home and has consulted on numerous rehab projects, making him a natural fit for an agent.
In 2017, Peter headed sales and marketing for a 34-unit residential luxury development in Lake Forest, spanning from pre-sales through market launch. As a well-respected member of the community for over two decades, he teamed up with fellow Lake Forest veterans Lori and Alissa in partnership. Similar to his teammates, Peter's passion for his community extends beyond his career. He is a long-serving board member and the current president of the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation.
When he isn't working, Peter enjoys spending time with his wife (who also grew up in Lake Forest) and their lovable 70-pound Bernedoodle named Hank. Together, they love to swim, travel, garden and indulge in fine dining.
